20th Century Voices: "La voix humaine" and "Twentieth-Century Lyricism"

  • Holyrood Church Holyrood Church 715 W 179th St New York, NY 10033 United States (map)

Project 6

Whether you're a lover of the avant garde or the traditional, you won't be able to resist this fascinating program of 20th century compositions and expressions.

Jonathan Rohr, baritone, and Eric Sedgwick, piano, present Twentieth-Century Lyricism:

"Lyricism is an abstract concept ... for me it signifies a combination of aesthetic and artistic beauty with intensely personal expressive qualities. All of the repertoire I picked for this project embody this lyricism in the context of distinctly twentieth-century outlooks and compositional techniques." - Jonathan Rohr

Zen Wu, soprano, presents La voix humaine:

"Although the corded telephone and operator are remnants of a prior era, substance abuse, heartbreak, depression and suicide have endured, dare I say even flourished through, the turn of the 21st century, and they lend a hyper-verismo sense of gravitas to this offering in the operatic form." - Zen Wu
